Greece 2009
Hi all-
These are photos from our trip to Greece. They are all unedited photos, and reduced size JPEGs for ease of uploading since I'm trying to travel light. When we return I'll change this to the full resolution photos and remove some of the "fluff", but this is for now a chronicle of our experience as it happens. The photos are not necessarily in order at this time. Enjoy!
5/29/09 - I have uploaded another batch of photos this morning from our trip to Kolimbithres. BTW- Many of the photos are geotagged. If you click the "map this" button you can see exactly where I took the photos.
5/30/09 - Yesterday we took the ferry from Paros to Santorini. Sailing into the caldera was truly incredible! We are staying in a hotel - Keti - that sits right on the rim of the caldera. The views are spectacular!
5/31/09 - More uploads from our excursion to Nea Kameni and points beyond, a black sand beach and another great sunset.
6/2/09 - More scenic uploads. Tonight we leave Santorini for the concrete jungle of Athens for the ancient history portion of the trip. Today we will visit the Museum of Ancient Thira here on Santorini along with another museum as a primer for the sights and sites we'll see in Athens.
6/5/09 - Got home tonight. Sheer exhaustion and a spotty internet connection in our Athens hotel have kept me from uploading. I will try to edit and upload photos from Athens tomorrow. Many people told us that one day in Athens was plenty. We found that for us it just wasn't true. Despite being big, noisy, dirty and run down, Athens is home to AMAZING archeological sites -not just the Parthenon! It has an excellent archeological museum that would take many days to fully explore. It has a great public transit system and lots of great food. Just seeing the Parthenon up close, being able to walk on the same rock as Socrates and others is truly awe inspiring and humbling. It is truly incredible what people could do with only hand tools and perseverance 2500 years ago or more.
I will eventually have this edited down to a smaller group of only the best photos. I shot around 3,000 images in the 12 days we were there and didn't have a good image processing computer with me ( or the time to edit ).
